Wayne White

Today I saw a great movie at the Detroit Film Theater, it was called Beauty is Embarrassing, and it was about the life and art of Wayne White.  This should be a required film for all CCS students, as Wayne White is one of the most talented and prolific artists I've ever seen.  He designed (and voiced) characters for Pee Wee's playhouse, did animation work for music videos, and has become well-known for his amazing word paintings.

There's plenty more at Waynewhiteart.com, check him out!!

Patricia Candor - Hiding In Plain Sight

Today I went to a show at the Northville Art House that exhibited the work of one of my favorite teachers I've ever had at CCS, Pat Candor (or Underdown).
The show exhibited many of Pat's self-portraits throughout the years, and she discussed that she tries not to "hide" what's "in plain sight" when creating each expressive piece.

Here's the facebook event, the show is open until January 26th.

It was great to see her and all my friends who went, can't wait to go back to Detroit.

Surreal-Its

For Christmas, I got some "Surreal-Its" sticky notes.  Kind of cheesy but I think they're fun to doodle in.

Speaking of Dali, anyone who hasn't seen Destino should watch it, it's a collaboration he did with Disney.  Pretty surreal.
